Email Settings: Outlook 2000 for Windows

Getting Started with Outlook 2000

1. Open Outlook 2000
2. Click Tools, from the pull down menu and select accounts
3. In the Accounts window, click the Mail tab; and click Add

4. Enter your name in the display name field box
5. Bullet "I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use"
6. Type your PlanetMagpie email address in the e-mail address field box; Click Next

7. My incoming mail server is a (select) POP3 server
8. In the incoming mail server field type mail2.planetmagpie.com
9. For the SMTP server field type smtp2.planetmagpie.com; Click Next

10. In the Account name field type your username
11. In the Password field type your password; Click Next

12. Click Finish; and restart Outlook

Configure your Outlook for SMTP Authentication

1. Open Outlook
2. Click Tools, form the pull down menu and select accounts (or services)
3. In the Accounts window, click the Mail tab
4. Highlight your Planetmagpie account and click the Properties button
5. In the Properties window, click the Servers tab; Make sure you have the correct server settings
  • Incoming Mail (POP3): mail2.planetmagpie.com
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp2.planetmagpie.com
  • Your username is correct (It is case sensitive)
  • Retype your password (It is case sensitive)

  • Incoming Mail (POP3): mail2.planetmagpie.com
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp2.planetmagpie.com
  • Your username is correct (It is case sensitive)
  • Retype your password (It is case sensitive)
6. User Outgoing Mail Server: check the box that says My server requires authentication
  • Click on the Settings button
  • Make sure you have the bullet filled in that says "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  • Click OK

7. Click apply and OK
8. Close Outlook

Configure your Outlook for Windows to retrieve your PlanetMagpie Email

1. Open Outlook
2. Click Tools
3. From the pulldown menu, choose Services

4. In the Services Tab, click on Add
5. In the Add Service to Profile window select Internet E-mail and click OK

6. Under the General tab. Fill out the appropriate fields
7. Under the Services tab fill appropriate mail servers. Incoming mail (POP3) mail2.planetmagpie.com, Outgoing mail (SMTP) smtp2.planetmagpie.com
At the bottom, Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box the says My server requires authentication and click on the settings button.

8. Under Logon Information fill in Log on using. Fill in your account name and password. Click OK
9. Click apply and click OK
10. Close the Services window and exit Outlook

Modifying Microsoft Outlook For Windows XP

To change your account settings:
1. Find the Tools drop down on you menu bar and select E-mail Accounts from the list (this will open a new window)
2. On the new window select View or change existing e-mail accounts and then click the Next button
3. Select your account in the new box and click the Change button (you are now at your e-mail settings page)
4. Verify that your Name, E-mail Address, User Name and password are entered correctly.
5. Change your Incoming mail server to mail.planetmagpie.com and your Outgoing mail server to smtp.planetmagpie.com.
6. Click on the More Setting button in the lower right corner
7. In the new window, click on the Outgoing Server tab and make sure that the checkbox next to “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” is checked.
8. Then click on the button next to “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” and click the OK button.
9. Click the Test Account Settings button to test your account.
10. If the new window processes and finalizes with “Congratulations! All tests competed successfully.
11. Click Close to continue”, click the close button to close that screen.
12. If you did not receive that message and it reported errors, please go back and verify all information. Once the test completes successfully, click the Next button and then the Finish Button. You are now ready to send and receive mail.
