Reshoring IT Creates American Jobs

Unleashing the Power of American IT

Has IT Offshoring damaged America's economic future?  Its national security?  Its technological advantage?  Research says yes.

Over the past two decades, the United States has lost millions of jobs to the offshoring of IT services and manufacturing.  Shipping software development and support to India, device manufacturing to China . . . even tech giants like Google and Facebook bypass American workers in favor of overseas workers on H-1B visas.

PlanetMagpie's Engineer-in-Training Program

In 2015, PlanetMagpie began a program to hire new Computer Science and Engineering college graduates as Engineers-in-Training (EIT). The graduates start as IT Support Technicians, with the chance to learn IT consulting from the ground up. Plus, our Engineers-in-Training have opportunities to participate in advanced IT Consulting projects under the mentorship of senior network engineers. EIT candidates get a career jumpstart. PlanetMagpie gets a smart new tech. America gains another capable IT professional.

Our newest Engineer-in-Training is Paul Hendrix (at left). Paul graduated from the University of Texas and spent 5 years as a Professional Athlete with the Cleveland Indians Organization. He holds multiple Microsoft certifications, including cybersecurity certificates, and aims to expand his overall skill set as part of the PlanetMagpie Pack.

Join Us in Supporting the Reshoring Initiative

The Reshoring Initiative is a nationwide nonprofit working to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. from overseas.  Their primary focus is on manufacturing jobs, and that includes IT (an essential component of modern manufacturing).  The Initiative's members work with the U.S. government and the media to raise awareness and provide resources for promoting reshoring.  They also work with businesses to illustrate the hidden costs of offshored manufacturing using their TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) calculator, as well as the benefits of workforce revitalization in the United States.

In 2015, PlanetMagpie’s president and other IT service leaders met with the Initiative's President, Harry Moser.  They discussed the state of IT offshoring, its impact on the U.S. IT workforce, how to inform companies on the hidden costs of doing IT work overseas, and the benefits of onshore IT services.  Since then PlanetMagpie has proudly supported the Reshoring Initiative's efforts.
